About Gareth
All styles, ages and levels of experience welcome!

I have been performing for over 14 years, and have 5 years experience teaching both one-on-one and group ensembles in high schools, music schools, music camps and privately. I have many years experience playing many styles of music including rock/pop bands, studio work, big bands, orchestras, theatre work, jazz groups, percussion ensembles, wedding/corporate work, experimental/improvisation, electronic music and production, and solo performances.

I am currently studying a Bachelor of Music at the Victorian College of the Arts, focusing on contemporary music and improvisation. In the last few years I have been fortunate to study with musicians such as Graham Morgan, Dave Beck, Tony Floyd, Scott Tinkler, Steve Magnusson, Chris Hale, Alex Pertout, and American drummers Jim Black, Danny Fischer, and Mark Guiliana.

I find learning is most effective in an environment that encourages questioning and creativity. Every student has different interests, and I am excited to work on any goals that students may present. My lessons aim to lay a foundation in drumming technique and knowledge, whilst also learning how to listen and interact with other musicians.
Each lesson will most likely include; technique, rudiments, discovering new rhythmic material and ideas, developing musical knowledge and understanding, reading and writing drum notation, improvisation, and learning how to teach yourself in the future.

I can also help you prepare for tertiary education auditions, AMEB and VCE Music exams.

I teach on top quality equipment (with 2 drum kits) from home in Parkville. I can pick you up from public transport if needed.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or queries.
